Tableware
Feeding Desire tableware range
The ‘Feeding Desire’ tableware range uses the industrial processes of waterjet cutting and laser marking to create one-off decorative plates. Vintage plates are collected from charity shops, second hand shops and car boot sales, and their beauty and value is restored with the addition of the patterns from the ‘Feeding Desire’ collection.
New Heirlooms tableware range
‘new heirlooms’ uses vintage ceramic pieces collected in charity shops in the UK and Denmark, overlaying them with hand cut and printed transfer patterns. Rejuvenating discarded objects with new patterns, and creating a collection of one off pieces, the story of these objects is continued, added to, highlighting the work of the charities involved, as well as creating links with our past, rekindling old memories and creating new ones.
More information
Charitable organisations accept donations of unwanted goods to be re–sold to raise money for the charity and their cause. This project seeks to highlight this process by creating one off works of art from ceramic pieces found in charity shops. A percentage of the money made from the sale of this work will go to the charity involved to aid them in their process.
Each piece has been used by someone before they are donated to the charity: rescued pieces have a new chapter added, joining new patterns with old and restoring the beauty of the old piece for a new owner. Hopefully, these pieces will go on to be enjoyed by many others whilst continually creating talking points and raising awareness of our throw away society, as well as the charities involved in the process.
Each piece is carefully selected and is fired once to check that it has no cracks and is suitable for refiring. Patterns are created from a range of sources and translated to transfer paper through printing or hand cutting. This transfer is then applied by hand and the piece is fired again.
