success at the auction!!!

well the night was a great success!! with eric knowles’ humour, the generosity of the audience, and some tightly fought battles over some plates, we managed to raise a grand total of £2337 for the wesley. what a fantastic way to finish the night!
(images will follow – just having a few technical issues…)
a quiet drink in sand bar followed with my parents, helpers and the amazing team from the gallery who have had such patience with me over the past while (during a period of back pain) working so hard to make the night a success. a huge thank you to them. and also to my 2 volunteer helpers, cat and nicola – thank you…
now richard – what are you going to spend the money on???

louise campbell

“dare to be different…”

one of the designers i most admire – dwell describe her as an ‘emerging designer’ which i think is strange – more a design leader i’d say…

regeneration of craft in education

“Crafts, inseparable from design, and now linked to art, play a crucial role in the UK’s Creative and Cultural Industries. Craftsmanship is the new black (or green). It can be the connective tissue between art and design as well as a creative medium and a driver of innovation. And, its focus on skills – on making – renders its graduates and practitioners valuable in the post-global economic crisis…”

Prof Stuart MacDonald, Head of Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, questions the demise of crafts within Art and Design in Higher Education in this thought provoking piece.
